From the Associated Press

ATLANTA — The Georgia House gave final approval Tuesday to legislation that would deny some state services to adults living in the U.S. illegally, sending what would be some of the nation's toughest immigration rules to the governor.

The bill, which passed by a 119-49 vote, would require verification that adults seeking state-administered benefits — like non-emergency medical care and unemployment checks — were in the country legally. It would also sanction employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.

The proposal, approved by the Senate on Monday, now goes to Gov. Sonny Perdue. If you want other stories on this topic, search the Archives at latimes.com/archives.
