Sensenbrenner Says Sending Illegal Immigrants Back Is Not Practical PDF Print E-mail

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Wisconsin Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner said he doesn’t like the Senate's plan to provide illegal immigrants with a shot at citizenship. The Wisconsin Republican spoke with WTMJ in Milwaukee.

Last week the Senate passed a bill that would tighten border security and offer guest worker programs.

But, Sensenbrenner called it a, "tough issue," one that's been festering for years. He said it is not practical to try and send illegal immigrants back.

"For 20 years it has been an offense to hire an illegal immigrant," said Sensenbrenner. "When the employer sanctions law is enforced, that means the magnet of more jobs that draw people to cross the border gets turned off. Then we can decide what to do a bout the 11 million to 12 million who are here."

The plan would also provide a chance at citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the country.
